Science Events Summit Cancelled. Join These Meetings
Science Events Summit The 2020 Science Events Summit is cancelled. As much as it hurts to cancel, it is not practical to postpone and it doesn't seem appropriate to try to replace what was originally planned for Atlanta this June with a frenzy of online activity. But while we will not be "virtualizing" the 2020 Summit, there are still so many reasons to get together. Wouldn't you like to touch base with your live event friends right now? Well, below are a few upcoming meetings that give you the chance. We're likely to add a few more sessions to this list. Now is the time to listen. It should be the basis of your work, but it seems harder to do than ever right now. We have arranged an unprecedented (and therefore experimental) opportunity for you to listen to voices you may not be hearing right now. Listen to conversations with students, parents/guardians, and teachers about how communities are faring on the other side of the digital divide, and start considering how you might help your organization get better at community listening.

... What was this Summit thing that was cancelled? Plans for the 2020 Science Events Summit have been in the works for over a year. Five grant-funded projects were planning to use the 2020 Summit as a culminating moment, with meetings, workshops, and working groups. Similarly, plans for an involved conference program were already underway, with several of the larger sessions sketched out. Fantastic venues were booked for May 31 - June 2 in Atlanta. Registrations were on track and enthusiasm was starting to build when planning was suspended in March. We are so thankful to those that had already started to bring the Summit together, and we're looking forward to reigniting those plans as soon as it is safe to do so.
