The 2018 festival and Carnival Day was a huge success in our effort to return the Colorado Springs Cool Science Festival to it’s past glory. Cool Science, which founded the event in 2010, regained control of the festival in 2017 after another organization had hosted it from 2013-2016, but this was the first year we were fully in charge and making it “cool” once again. Look for even greater things next year (tentatively Oct. 12-20, 2019)!
As always, the 9-day festival kicked off with the Cool Science Carnival Day for Kids at UCCS (Univ. of Colorado at Colorado Springs), a STEAM-extravaganza featuring shows, performances, workshops, lab tours and hands-on activities enjoyed by thousands of kids of all ages, presented by Cool Science and 70 other community organizations. Carnival Day was followed by 8 more days of special events designed to engage, educate and excite kids and adults- in a “cool” way- with much of the STEAM happening the Pikes Peak Region, including the Colorado Springs Mini Maker Faire.
For over 17 years, Cool Science has excited, inspired and engaged students, teachers and parents throughout eastern Colorado (and beyond) with the wonders of science in the world around us. Cool Science’s passionate volunteers provide a wide variety of fun, engaging and intimidation-free science demonstrations and hands-on activities for students (primarily grades K-8th) in schools, libraries and other public venues year-round. Cool Science also hosts the adults-only “Science on Tap” program each month at Jack Quinn’s Irish Ale House & Pub.
